How We Research
Every guide on Tree Totem answers one question: will this sauna work in your home, with your space and your power? A great sauna that needs a circuit you don't have is no use to you.
Here is how we get to an answer.
1. We start with the space and the power
We check the outside size, the seating, the ceiling height and whether a sauna is made for indoor or outdoor use. When a model only suits certain rooms or climates, we say so.
We also check the power each one needs. Some plug into a standard outlet, while others need a dedicated 240V circuit.
2. We look at the heat
Infrared cabins, traditional heaters and wood stoves warm a room in different ways. We note the heater type, its output, the top temperature the maker lists and how long it takes to warm up.
For heaters and stoves, we match the output to the room size the maker gives.
3. We compare build and features
We compare the wood, the door and glass, the bench layout, the controls and what comes in the box. We also note the warranty terms each maker gives.
Makers describe their own products, so we name the brand for every claim. For example, we write "Harvia says" rather than stating a promise as fact.
4. We read what owners report
We look for patterns in what owners say after months of use. Slow heat-up, weak panels, hard assembly, cracked stones and poor support all count.
One unhappy owner doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
5. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and owner feedback against what you're shopping for. A sauna that suits a basement may score lower in a guide written for a backyard.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
6. We keep pages current
Models change, and sellers list close cousins under similar names. We check model details, link only new units and skip any product with a known recall.
When a guide changes in a real way, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks come from research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have sat in every sauna we cover.
A sauna is a hot room with a powerful heater. Follow the maker's manual, use a licensed electrician for any new circuit, and ask your doctor first if you have a health condition.
